Award-winning helicopters promoted in Azerbaijan

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) students, who managed to receive awards at TEKNOFEST two years in a row with the cargo transport and attack helicopters they developed, attended the International Astronautical Congress held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, as guests. IUE students, who had the opportunity to meet with the leading representatives of the space industry and explain their projects and ideas, gave information about the helicopters they designed to the young people attending the fair.
The ‘ECO-Dynamics’ team, consisting of students from IUE Department of Aerospace Engineering, came third in 2022 and second this year in the Helicopter Design Competition held at TEKNOFEST.
BOTH CARGO TRANSPORT AND FIREFIGHTER
The cargo transport helicopter, for which IUE students came third in Turkey last year, made a difference with its 10 and a half tons load capacity and 475 kilometers range. The helicopter, which has a crew of 3, a fuel capacity of 5 tons and can reach an altitude of 3 thousand meters, was also designed to be used in fire extinguishing.
The attack helicopter, which ranked second in this year's competition, was prepared in light desert yellow color, taking into account its camouflage feature. The two-crew helicopter, which has high maneuverability, can easily land on difficult terrains, and can carry 1.1 tons of ammunition, attracted attention with its many features.
RANGE OF 720 KILOMETERS
Composite materials and titanium coating were also used in the design of the helicopter, which can reach a speed of 336 kilometers. The electrically equipped helicopter, which has a range of 720 kilometers and is among the state-of-the-art aircraft, has special filtered glasses that do not retain water. The helicopter, which can stay in the air for exactly 3 hours and 16 minutes, has high performance and safety, and has an engine power of 2,558 kW, also stood out with its ease of production.
In addition to receiving an award for the helicopter they designed, young people from IUE also experienced the pride and happiness of being invited to the 74th International Astronautical Congress held in Azerbaijan this year. ECO-Dynamics team members Sinem Bircan, Ahmet Yiğit Özel, Eda Nur Telik and Can Oral successfully represented our country at the congress.
IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY
Expressing that taking part in such an important congress is a good memory and an important opportunity for them, Can Oral said, “We, as teammates, had the opportunity to introduce ourselves and our projects at the congress, where leading companies and agencies in the space industry of various countries were present. Our work attracted the attention and appreciation of industry representatives and young people at the fair. We worked hard for the helicopters, we sometimes worked until late at night. But it was all worth it too.”
PROJECTS WILL CONTINUE
Can Oral continued as follows: “The fact that our project received awards and carried us to such an important international event motivated and encouraged us for our future work. Participating in the fair was a very useful experience in terms of seeing where the ever-growing space industry is heading and shaping our career goals. We have achieved significant success with the helicopters we designed in the last two years. We continue to work to produce new projects and further develop this helicopter. We would like to take part in TEKNOFEST with different projects in the coming period.”
