‘International Women's Day’ Enthusiasm

The March 8th International Women's Day was celebrated with various events at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). The events, coordinated by IUE Gender and Women's Studies Research and Application Center (EKOKAM), brought together academic and administrative staff and students. The booths by EKOKAM, Faculty of Medicine, Medical Club, Department of Sociology, Sociology Club, Department of Psychology, Psychology Club, Psychology Research and Application Center, Faculty of Law, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, and IUE Press in the cafeteria and foyer of Block A attracted great interest.
REPORT RELEASED
Within the scope of the events, the 2022-2025 IUE Gender Equality Monitoring Report was released by EKOKAM Director Prof. Dr. Gönül Dinç Horasan at the Traditional Gender Studies Development Workshop. Sharing EKOKAM's 2024 events at the workshop, Prof. Dr. Horasan said, “The number of academics and students interested in gender and women's studies at our University is increasing day by day. Our work is also increasing in parallel, which is very gratifying.”
Speaking at the opening of the program, IUE Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Aslı Ceylan Öner emphasized the importance of gender equality and stated that the University attaches special importance to this area in its academic and social contribution efforts. At the workshop, academics also shared their activities in the field of ‘gender’, and opportunities for joint work were discussed. On the same day, the Grup Turuncu concert and Latin dance performances held in the cafeteria area were highly appreciated by the audience.
LASTED ALL WEEK
The events organized for International Women's Day continued throughout the week. In Urla, a panel on ‘Awareness and Education Aimed at Violence against Women’ was held by the Urla District Governorate and IUE Continuing Education Center (EKOSEM). Prof. Dr. Nesrin Oruç Ertürk, Prof. Dr. Gönül Dinç Horasan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Arzu Aşçı, and Lecturer Ferda Eser provided training to teachers working in the district. Within the scope of the Health Protection Seminars organized by the IUE Vocational School of Health Services Social Contribution Committee, presentations titled ‘Approach to Cases of Violence against Women in Health Institutions’ by Psychologist Gözde Coşkun and ‘Dating Violence and Safe Relationships’ by Prof. Dr. Gönül Dinç Horasan were delivered. In the ‘Inspiring Women’ event held by the IUE Medicine Club and Space and Aviation Technologies Club (SAAT), expert women speakers from different sectors shared their career journeys, experiences, and inspiring stories with the participants.
