Izmir’s ‘test’ lab
Companies from Izmir that wish to enter the market with products they have developed in various fields, from electric vehicles to home appliances, multimedia devices to televisions, no longer need to travel long distances for necessary tests. Embryoniks, the only center conducting these tests in Izmir, has been providing fully equipped services at Bilimpark for the past three years, coming to the aid of hundreds of companies needing the ‘CE Certificate’ to prove their products' quality and safety.
Director of Embryoniks, which was implemented in cooperation with Izmir Development Agency (IZKA), Izmir Chamber of Commerce (IZTO), Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Izmir Bilimpark, İsmail Akboru, a Lecturer at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), said, “Companies are required to obtain a ‘CE Certificate’ to prove that their products do not pose any danger when used as intended and do not harm the environment. Previously, the necessary tests to obtain this certificate were conducted only at centers in Istanbul and Ankara. Now, we are also here. We are meeting a significant need by providing services to all of Turkey.”
At Embryoniks, located in Menderes, Izmir, tests are conducted for products, including low voltage directives (LVD), electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and water and dust resistance (up to IP68). Accredited by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TURKAK) and occupying an 800-square-meter facility, Embryoniks also offers logistical advantages due to its proximity to Izmir's port and being just 3.5 hours from Istanbul.
“WE PROVIDE TIME AND COST ADVANTAGES”
Embryoniks Director and IUE Vocational School, Occupational Health and Safety Program Lecturer İsmail Akboru emphasized the center's significant role in university-industry collaboration. Providing information about the center, Akboru said, “For example, if you have manufactured a microwave oven for home use, you will need a CE Certificate to market or export it. You need to measure whether the microwave has any harmful effects on human health, whether the signals it emits affect other products, and, in short, whether it is safe for use. To determine this, you need the devices at our center. If the product passes all these requirements without any problems, it qualifies for the CE Certificate. Before us, there was no such laboratory in Izmir. Companies or entrepreneurs often had to travel to Istanbul or Ankara to meet these certification requirements, which posed time and cost challenges. We are now a critical center meeting this need.”
“WE SERVE ALL OF TURKEY”
Reminding that they serve not only Izmir or the Aegean region but the entire country, Akboru said, “On this journey we embarked on to bring fresh momentum to our sector and establish a prominent position in our field, we continue our work with success. At our center, we focus on providing the best possible service to companies, without making them wait, and in the fastest manner. We complete the entire testing process for a product within an average of one week. We are able to provide services across a wide range of products, from home appliances and microwave ovens to electric cars, kitchen appliances, refrigerators, televisions, and lighting products.”
