Shake N Brew

This year's winner of the Turkey Creative Business Cup, hosted by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) in order to increase Turkey's power in the creative industries, was Ubeydullah Güngör, who produces filter coffee under the name of ‘Kahvegibikahve Salla-Demle’ (Shake and Brew). Güngör represented our country at the Creative Business Cup World Finals held in Denmark, with a product that can be easily brewed by adding water and tastes the same as coffee prepared in a machine. Güngör, who managed to stay in the last 10 in the finals where more than 60 projects from different countries took place, met with foreign investors and laid the foundation for his new business ideas.
Projects from across the country participated in the ‘Creative Business Cup’ organized by Izmir University of Economics Creative Economy Research and Application Center (IUE+KREA) and supported by the General Directorate of Copyrights of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Projects from different cities in across the country were pre-selected by the jury and carefully examined, and the first 4 companies that were determined competed in the final
‘IF THERE IS A TEA BAG, THERE CAN BE A COFFEE BAG’
Ubeydullah Güngör, who founded ‘Kahvegibikahve’ about 5 years ago, based on the idea of ‘If there is tea bag, why not a coffee bag’ entered the international arena by taking the first place in the competition. Güngör, who successfully represented our country in Denmark, stated that the coffee he prepared can be purchased online right now, and that business people abroad also showed great interest in the product.
IT ALSO REDUCES THE CARBON FOOTPRINT
Güngör said, “Coffee is usually brewed with the help of a coffee machine and a French press at work, in offices or at home. This takes both time and requires cleaning the residues after brewing the coffee. So I focused on finding a practical solution to this situation. I thought that everyone would be very warm to the idea of ‘shake-brew filter coffee’ by considering the palate of coffee lovers. That's what happened. ‘Kahvegibikahve’ has made great progress in a short time. Our coffee beans come from Guatemala and Indonesia. We prepare and package the coffee with the help of herbal filters. The coffee is ready in 3-4 minutes, by just adding hot water. As long as you have water in your cup or a vacuum flask, you don't even need a jug or a similar pouring tool. We take the quality to the next level with our special coffee beans. We are meticulous in the R&D processes of our business and we have a patent. The fiber filter we use while preparing the coffee contributes to a more intense and accurate brewing process. The practical coffee we bring to life also reduces the carbon footprint per cup by up to 95 percent.
IT WAS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR US
Güngör continued as follows: “The Creative Business Cup World Finals in Denmark went very well for us. We have told many foreign investors about our project. Our practical coffee attracted the attention of business people and was accepted. Going global with ‘Kahvegibikahve’ is one of my main priorities. The success I achieved in the Turkey Creative Business Cup was also an opportunity for me, a ticket to go abroad. I returned to Turkey, but communication with manufacturers abroad continues. I sincerely believe that we will come be more successful by not compromising on quality in the coming period, and I am working for this.”
WE ARE THE NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CREATIVE BUSINESS NETWORK
Congratulaitng the winner, Güngör, IUE+KREA Director Dr. Sevay İpek Aydın said, “As a university, we are the national representative of the world-renowned Creative Business Network. We carried out a comprehensive study on the Creative Business Cup, which lasted for about 5 months. We were in the global finals with Myth.ai and Cevelyn before. This year, we have supported the international journey of an initiative in the field of gastronomy. Important people such as Toni Attard, Melisa İtmeç, Tomas Cernevicius and Taha Utku Yılmaz were among our jury and mentors. In addition, the participation of many qualified and creative ideas in the competition made the jury very happy. Izmir is a city with a lot of potential, which can be at the top of creativity as in every field. As a university, we work to contribute to both our region and our country, and to create opportunities for young entrepreneurs and creative ideas. We will continue our efforts to make Izmir, a livable, human and technology friendly city, a center of attraction for creative ideas.”
